President Barack Obama Talks Emotional Final Months in Office

President Barack Obama joined Jimmy Fallon on Thursday's Tonight Show and the two had a fun, emotional night of "Slow Jamming the News," writing Thank You Notes and getting candid about the Commander-in-Chief's post-White House plans.

Sitting across from Fallon, the president was effortlessly charming as he opened up about his final days in office and explained how he keeps
from getting wrapped up in sentimentality.

"The work keeps you occupied," Obama shared. "Every once in a while you start thinking about the people you've worked with, and that's when you start getting a little sentimental, but you gotta fight it off because you don't wanna be crying in the Oval Office."

Obama, 54, also revealed how the rapid moving process works when you're a departing president, explaining, "They literally move all your stuff out in one day."

"It's not all out on the side lawn," he joked. "They pack it up and they will move it to wherever it is you wanna move it to."

For the Obamas, that’s only a few miles away. The President said that the First Family will be staying in Washington, D.C. for the time being, so that his youngest daughter, Sasha, can remain close to her school and her friends.

"[Sasha] will still be in school and the idea of her having to transfer schools, move to a new city, halfway through high school would not make me popular," Obama joked.

"I thought you were just gonna be like that kid that graduated high school and just never left," Fallon quipped.

"I mean, it is a little depressing. You're like the old guy at the disco," Obama agreed, laughing. "People [start] whispering, 'He's still here?'"

While Sasha, 14, is mid-way through high school, the President’s eldest daughter, 17-year-old Malia, is about to graduate, after which she'll be taking a year off before enrolling at Harvard in the fall of 2017.

Obama admitted that he was likely going to get a little misty eyed at the graduation ceremony on Friday, but assured Fallon that he's bringing a pair of dark sunglasses to hide his emotional side.

As for his plans after leaving the White House in January, he's got a simple but well-earned goal.

"I'm gonna get some sleep, that's for sure," Obama explained. "And then I think Michelle and I will take a break somewhere for a couple weeks and let the girls manage for themselves. Hopefully, they'll be OK when we get back."

Before the interview, Fallon and Obama slowed things down for another epic round of "Slow Jamming the News," where the president got to lay out all the great things he's done for the country, with some hilariously awkward accompaniment from Fallon the The Roots.

After the sit-down, the two teamed up again for another popular segment, both writing Thank You Notes to the people and things closest to Obama during his presidency.
